Description
This Tropheus species is a fish that has a somewhat deep body and a relatively larger head compared to the body. The body tapers as it extends into the tail, and the caudal fin has a fan-like appearance. It typically displays a combination of bright yellow, orange, and black markings on its body, with intricate patterns that vary among individuals. The intensity of these colours can be further enhanced with a well-balanced diet and proper care. They are native to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa and inhabit rocky shorelines and algae.
Gender Inequality
Males tend to have a turned-up nose, while females tend to have a greater slope and rounded nose. Males will also grow at a faster rate and display their adult colors sooner. Adult males will also tend to have a deeper body, whereas females appear slimmer and more streamline.
Temperament and Compatible Tank Companions
These cichlids exhibit territorial and aggressive behavior, particularly during the breeding period. It is optimal to house them in a tank exclusively for their species or with other Lake Tanganyika cichlid species that are capable of tolerating their aggressive behavior. Do not cohabitate them with smaller or more peaceful fish.
