Description

Altolamprologus calvus, commonly known as Black Calvus, is a species of cichlid that is found exclusively along the southern coast of Lake Tanganyika in eastern Africa. The species possesses a highly flattened body and a prominent dorsal fin.   It is called Calvus, which is derived from the Latin word for “bald,” because it has a scaleless patch on its forehead.

Temperament and Compatible Tank Companions

The Calvus Cichlid is a territorial yet somewhat amicable fish that thrives when kept in pairs or groups within a tank specifically designed for their species. To minimize hybridization, it is advisable to avoid introducing other color variations while breeding Calvus.
