Description
Thorichthys Ellioti, also referred to as the Ellioti cichlid, is an aesthetically pleasing and underappreciated fish species native to Central America. It is mostly found in the rivers and lakes of Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras. The cichlid is highly favoured by aquarium hobbyists because of its vivid hues, distinctive patterns, and relatively modest size.
The Ellioti cichlid exhibits a visually appealing combination of colours that effectively juxtapose and harmonise with one another. The primary hue is a muted purple or grey shade adorned with vibrant blue speckles. The markings extend from the head to the tail and glisten beneath the lights of the aquarium. The most recognizable feature of these fish is the development of a vibrant red coloration from the cheek to the stomach, located just below the lateral line. The greatest size of these Cichlids is 16cm.
Gender Disparity
Female fish typically exhibit a prominent dark blotch in their dorsal fin, whereas male fish lack this characteristic blotch. Typically, the males exhibit more growth in size compared to the females. Both genders can exhibit vibrant and diverse colours.
Temperament and Suitable Tank Companions
Certain tiny to medium-sized characins from Central America can serve as suitable companions in a tank. Additionally, if you are not particular about mixing fish from various continents, Rainbowfish and Blue Acaras are also viable choices for shoaling mid-top water fish.
