Description

Lethrinops Gold Harbour is a stunning freshwater cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi in Africa. Known for its vibrant yellow-golden body accented by dark horizontal stripes, this species adds colour and elegance to any aquarium. It features a slender, elongated form and typically reaches about 10-12cm in length. Lethrinops Gold Harbour is a peaceful, schooling fish that thrives in groups, making it ideal for larger, well-structured tanks. Their active nature and striking appearance make them a favourite among Malawi cichlid enthusiasts.

Tank Recommendations:
A minimum of 150 litres is recommended for a small school, with sandy substrate and plenty of rocks and caves to mimic their natural habitat. Maintain water temperature between 24-26°C, with a pH of 7.8-8.6, and soft to moderately hard water. Good filtration and regular water changes are essential to keep water quality high, as they are sensitive to poor conditions.

Compatibility & Incompatibility:
They are compatible with other peaceful Malawi cichlids such as Melanochromis or Pseudotropheus, provided they are similarly sized. Avoid aggressive or much larger species that might bully or outcompete them. They prefer a calm environment and should be kept away from overly aggressive tank mates.

Best Feeding Regime:
Omnivorous but primarily herbivorous, Lethrinops Gold Harbour thrives on high-quality vegetable flakes, spirulina-based pellets, and algae wafers. Supplement their diet with occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or daphnia. Feed twice daily, only what they can consume within a few minutes, to prevent water quality issues.
