Description
The Frontosa Kigoma Cichlid (7 Bar) is native to Lake Tanganyika in Africa and is widely distributed in that region. They inhabit the majority of Lake Tanganyika, primarily at depths ranging from 10 to 50 metres, which can be considered relatively deep within the water. Contrary to other cichlid fish that favour habitats with covers and rocks, the frontosa exhibits a preference for large colonies along the sandy beaches of the lake.
The body of the Frontosa Kigoma Cichlid is characterised by a pale blue colour, with dark blue cheeks that have the ability to transition into a nearly black shade. The dorsal fin may exhibit a yellowish hue. The vertical bands exhibit a colour scheme of either pure white or a combination of white and blue. The band positioned over the eye appears perplexed and bears a resemblance to a blemish. The fish has six vertical black bands, with the seventh band extending from the forehead, passing through the fish’s eye, and reaching the opercle insertion. Due to this rationale, they are frequently referred to as a 7 Bar Frontosa. The greatest size of this fish is 30cm.
Gender Disparity
The male Frontosa Kigoma Cichlid exhibits a more pronounced hump compared to the female. As an individual ages, the size of the forehead hump increases, serving as an indicator of both age and physical strength in fish. The maximum size of the Frontosa Kigoma Cichlid in a tank can reach up to 30 cm, while the size of the female is quite tiny, measuring approximately 25 cm in length.
