Description
The Midas Cichlid, scientifically known as Amphilophus citrinellus, has the potential to reach a maximum length of 35cm.Found in Costa Rica and Nicaragua This species is characterised by its aggressive nature and its tendency to prey on other fish. The Midas fish is selectively bred, resulting in a wide range of possible colour variations. The hue varies from darker browns to oranges, bright yellows, and whites. The Midas Cichlid has significantly contributed to the hybridization and widespread reproduction of the Flowerhorn Cichlid. The Midas fish species is frequently mistaken for the Red Devil Cichlid.
Gender Disparity
Once this Cichlid reaches maturity, males may be easily distinguished by the prominent hump on their heads, which is significantly greater compared to females. The males often possess anal and dorsal fins that are longer than those of the females.
