Description
The Ngara Flametail Peacock, scientifically known as Aulonocara stuartgranti, is a subspecies of the Aulonocara stuartgranti kinds, but it is smaller in size. The life expectancy of peacock cichlids, when provided with appropriate care, ranges from 6 to 10 years. The Ngara Flametail Peacock is an exceptionally beautiful fish. Male individuals exhibit a lustrous blue hue on their facial region and extending throughout their dorsal surface, all the way to their caudal appendage. Over time, their body acquires a vibrant orange hue that originates from their gills and extends all the way to their tail. While the Ngara Flametail Peacock is capable of consuming both plant and animal matter, it primarily consumes meat-based diets. If there are plants present in the tank, it typically refrains from making contact with them. In their natural habitat, they consume a diverse range of live prey, particularly small invertebrates that reside at the bottom of their environment. These cichlids reach a maximum of 14-15cm.
Gender Disparity
Determining the sex of juvenile Ngara Flametail Peacocks might provide a challenge. As males reach adulthood, they frequently exhibit more vibrant pigmentation and grow longer dorsal fins in comparison to females.
Temperament and Suitable Tank Companions
Compatible companions for Ngara Flametail Peacock Cichlids encompass more species of Lake Malawi cichlids that are comparable in terms of size and temperament. Ensure that they are not housed alongside excessively aggressive or larger cichlids that have the potential to intimidate or outperform them. Allocate sufficient area and concealment options to minimise aggression.
