Description
Mikrogeophagus altispinosus, sometimes known as the Bolivian ram, .These cichlids inhabit the countries of Bolivia and Brazil.
The species displays remarkable vibrancy in its coloration, and mature individuals exhibit a dazzling array of hues reminiscent of the entire spectrum of colors seen in a rainbow. The prominent features of these stunning fish are large eyes, a distinct snout resembling a parrot’s beak, extended front rays of the dorsal fin, a black stripe across the eye, and a black patch on the lateral line.
The fish primarily inhabit shallow, sandy ponds, which have a temperature of approximately 27 °C and a pH level ranging from 7 to 7.6.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that while the fish is under stress, six unclear crossbands become visible on its body. Furthermore, during the period of caring for its offspring, the female fish’s yellowish body color, the black eye stripe, and the black lateral spot become highly pronounced.
