Description

The Spotted Silver Dollar fish originates from South America and has long been popular among tropical fish enthusiasts. They typically reach a length of approximately 15cm, which is roughly equivalent to the size of a saucer. The fish exhibit a striking silver hue, with certain types of males displaying a minor reddish tint on their anal fin. They thrive in schools consisting of at least 6 individuals and are prone to becoming quickly frightened when not in a school.They might nevertheless exhibit extreme nervousness, particularly if you approach the tank with excessive haste. 

 

While generally docile, they can exhibit highly aggressive feeding behaviour. Observing their consumption can be enjoyable.  . For those who care for plants, these creatures are herbivores and are well-known for the significant harm they may cause to your live plants.

The spotted silver dollar is an excellent choice for medium- to large sized aquariums since it remains at a more manageable size compared to the regular silver dollar. It is often surprising that these fish are actually tetras, which are closely related to piranhas and have a diet that is mostly vegetarian. The spotted silver dollar is considered to be the fish that most closely resembles the red-bellied piranha, even when fully grown. These fish are excellent additions to a bigger cichlid tank or a South American biotope. 

 

Gender Disparity 

 

Females often exhibit a modest increase in size compared to males Healthy female individuals exhibit increased abdominal fullness. Mature males may display slightly elongated fins.
