They inhabit  flowing streams and tributaries of the Rio Negro in Brazil. The water in this location frequently exhibits a tea-like hue, as it is deeply infused with tannins derived from the decomposition of organic substances. These fish have a preference for blackwater tanks with lower pH and soft water. Adding driftwood, Indian almond leaves, and other botanicals to your tank would be a beneficial addition.

This catfish is an omnivore and highly efficient at consuming algae. It can feed on various types of algae commonly seen in aquariums. The aesthetically pleasing color pattern may fluctuate based on the prevailing conditions within the tank or the emotional state of the fish.  L168 can reach a length of 15 cm.
